about
One month before releasing the album Flora (Fysisk Format, Fugleben Records 2021), Frøkedal & Familien released a songbook containing words, melodies and chords for the songs. They encouraged people to make pre-release covers. I bought the songbook and ended up making several versions of SØN. One month went by fast, and before I knew it their album was released. By then I was having so much fun with this, and was too committed to the song, so I kept on working on it, and talked to my friend Vegard about recording it - all the while not listening to the original. We stayed true to the lyrics, but musically we took some liberties. The general melody and chord progressions are there, but twists and turns were added in the spur of the moment, working on the project. Months after the project started it was great to finally hear the original song.
lyrics
SØN
(Anne Lise Frøkedal)
Pitch black
is the colour of dreams
lightproof interior design
thick blankets and blinds
It's all I got
it's all that I need
to leave this place behind
the only way out
You all move like a flock of sheep
hear me howling
I’m letting go of the sunlight
There's a fire
spreading on your screens
tell the people who keep stopping by
to forget about me
I no longer hear
any of your ideas
let the records spin day and night
breathe in and breathe out
You all move like a flock of sheep
you all live in denial
hear me howling
I'm letting go of the sunlight
You all move like a flock of sheep
you all live in denial
to the fear in your bloodstream
hear me howling
I’m letting go of the sunlight

The surprisingly comical new video from roaring metal group Red Fang is a tip of the hat to the original “Predator.” Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 12, 2016
Combining crooned murder ballads with raw, angsty hard rock hooks, Melbourne's The Ugly Kings are a wrecking crew well worth watching. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 15, 2021
